What is Leaf Scouts?
Leaf Scouts is a scout-themed weekly art challenge that occurs during one random month once a year.
At the beginning of each week, a new drawing prompt is posted. Participants need an original character to make into a temporary scout and draw them participating in each prompt. Your character earns a fictional badge each week for completing the prompt.
Can I join late? Can I draw multiple prompts if I missed them?
Yes and yes! Even if an event is over, nothing is stopping you from drawing any of the prompts. The only thing that you will miss out on is the community aspect. If an event is ongoing, you can jump in at any time with any prompt!
Can I join the current Leaf Scout event if I didn't participate in past events?
Yes! You can jump in at any time, new and old participants are welcome!
Where do I submit my art? Do I have to join the Discord server to participate?
You can post your art on social media OR join the Leaf Scouts Discord server OR both! Social media hashtags will be provided so other participants can find your work! Sharing your art publicly is entirely optional. The benefit to sharing your art is being able to build community with the other artists that participate in the Leaf Scouts event.
No, you do not have to join our Discord server in order to participate in Leaf Scouts, but it is HIGHLY encouraged in order to FULLY experience the extent of our community!
Art posted under the Leaf Scouts hashtag needs to follow the Guidelines.
I don't know if my art needs a content warning. What do I do?
Ask or check the Guidelines! Message me (Leaf) or ping a moderator and we will let you know if your art or character design needs a content warning.
If you really have to question whether or not your idea for a prompt would be allowed, then it is probably best to just not draw it.
Can I make more than one drawing for each weekly prompt?
Yes, you can make as many as you'd like! Your character still only gets one fictional badge, though.
Can I have multiple scout characters? Do I have to draw all of them for each prompt?
Yes! You can have as many characters as you want for the event.
No, you don't have to draw all of them every single time, but you do have to draw at least one of your scout characters per prompt.
Does my character have to be an animal?
Nope, your character can be any species, person, creature, or even a sentient object.
If your character has creepy features, please put a warning if you post your art under the provided Leaf Scouts hashtag. See the Guidelines for what needs a warning and what doesn't.
Can I draw other people's characters? Will people draw my characters?
Yes, you can draw any Leaf Scouts participant! But you must also include at least one of your own scout characters in each weekly drawing.
Other artists participating in the event might draw your character, but it isn't guaranteed. When you create a scout character, they are fair game for anyone to draw. Your character might even be featured in the official comic posted each week!
Can I do collaborations with other artists? Can we post the art to both of our social media accounts? Can we post it to a shared account?
Yes, yes, and yes! Collaborations are absolutely allowed, encouraged even!
Can I draw characters that are not part of Leaf Scouts?
Yes, but at least one of your scout characters must be featured in each prompt.
Do I have to make new characters for each new Leaf Scout event? Can I use my characters from previous events?
Nope, and yes! You can reuse and make any of your characters into scouts, new and old. Think of each Leaf Scouts event as a new session- there will be new and old members every time!
Can my characters wear badges from previous Leaf Scouts events?
Absolutely! They can be placed anywhere on their uniform. You can put on old badges even if you didn't participate in past events; it isn't that strict.
What kind of art can I make? Does it have to be colored or finished?
Any medium is allowed! Traditional, digital, sculpture, sketches, rendered pieces, paintings, mixed media, animations, etc.
No, it does not have to be colored or finished. It can even be as quick as a pencil doodle!
Can I make other forms of art that are not drawings? Writing, music, design, etc.
Yes, as long as it still follows the Guidelines. It might be a bit of a challenge considering each Leaf Scouts prompt is tailored to making drawing-based artwork, but you can still go for it!
Who are the "scout leaders"? Can I be a scout leader? Can I draw them?
The "scout leaders" are reoccurring characters in the comic that help Leaf lead the Leaf Scouts!
No, you cannot be a scout leader. Only characters of my closest friends and members of the Leaf Scouts watch can be scout leaders.
Yes, you can absolutely draw any of them! The current scout leaders (besides Leaf) are Somnia, June, Spice, Possumfang, Malvryn, Solaris, Ali, Saffron, Clara, Bri, Toad, Moochie, Chase, and Rusty.
What is the "Leaf Scouts Watch"? Can I join?
The "Leaf Scouts Watch" is a team of volunteer moderators who make sure that all Leaf Scouts art follow the Guidelines.
They run all moderator decisions by me (Leaf) before taking action. If they ask you to do something, you need to listen to them!
The current members of the Leaf Scouts Watch are Solaris (@sollarwarrior), DragonLova (@dragonlova.art), June (@jun3bugs_), Alexa (@alexa_art6), Saffron (@saffronfur924), Clara (@claraclumsygirl), Brenna (@brenna_art561), Toad (@toadszfactory), Moochie, Rusty (@rustyorangee), and Blind (@blindboiexe).
No one can join the Leaf Scouts Watch unless explicitly asked to, and I will only ever ask very close friends and mutuals. Moderators need to be over 18 years of age for the potential mature/harmful content they might see while volunteering.
Where in the world does Leaf Scouts take place?
There is no specific place on Earth that Leaf Scouts takes place, it is all fantasy.
However, a lot of the settings and foliage from the comics are referenced from the northeast USA since that is where I live. Feel free to headcannon or draw wherever you want Leaf Scouts to be taking place!
Is there still a raffle?
No. The very first Leaf Scouts event in June 2023 included a raffle entry for anyone who completed all of the prompts and earned a "badge". I did not anticipate so many artists participating (over 200!) and it was very stressful to keep track of who completed all of the prompts and who didn't.
Now, Leaf Scouts is an art challenge entirely for fun. There is no reward for completing all of the prompts except for your own accomplishment, building community, making friends and having a blast!
Are the badges real?
Yes and no. The badges are entirely fictional and you can draw your character wearing them on their uniform!
However, at the end of each event you will be able to purchase the badges as pins for a limited time on my Ko-fi shop! Profit from the merchandise helps me create future Leaf Scouts adventures.
There are also some secret, exclusive Leaf Scouts pins that I give out at conventions and events!
Can I make my own Leaf Scouts badge pins?
It is highly discouraged since it hurts the sale of the real badge pins. Purchasing the official pins directly supports Leaf Scouts and helps me create more future content!
Selling counterfeit Leaf Scout pins is prohibited and will be considered theft. I will not give out art files of the badges.
There is a company called Leaf Scouts, are you associated with them?
Nope! Our Leaf Scouts is an entirely separate entity and is a weekly drawing prompt just for fun.
The official Leaf Scouts company is a "full-service national workforce solutions firm that specializes in placing professionals in the cannabis industry." Consider checking them out if you are over 21 and cannabis use is legal in your state/country; here is their website.
Where did Leaf Scout leader Bems go?
Dunno, rumor has it they're still out in the woods somewhere...
